Edinburgh, Scotland

Why did the Scots choose their national animal to be a UNICORN?

It was chosen over 500 years ago, and can be spotted on many landmarks in Edinburgh.

Devon, England

Greenway House is an estate on the River Dart in Devon.

It was Agatha Christie’s home and is now owned by the National Trust.

Agatha Christie was born in 1890. Her first mystery, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, was published in 1920. During both world wars, she served in hospital dispensaries where she acquired a vast knowledge of poisons that she used in many of her novels.

Her personal life was rife with mystery also. Christie’s famous ‘disappearance’ for 11 days made international headlines.

The Queen of Crime, Dame Agatha Christie is accredited as the all time best-selling fiction author. 

She ranks right behind the Bible and the works of William Shakespeare. She wrote 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, most featuring Hercules Poirot or Miss Jane Marple.

Several movies and plays have been produced from her books, including the longest running play of all time—The Mousetrap.

Chicago, IL

Apparently in 2022 Chicago was considered the murder capital of the world. That’s not why I chose to use it as the setting for my Danby mystery series. I chose it because it’s my hometown.

Boca Raton, FL

This sunny, South Florida city is the setting for Sleuthfest—an annual conference for writers and fans of mysteries, thrillers and crime fiction. 

Sleuthfest is run by the Florida chapter of the Midwest Writers of America and has been held for over 25 years.

Andover, NH

The crime rate in Andover is much lower than the national average. Looking at random monthly statistics, there doesn’t seem to be a murder among them! So why did I choose Andover as the setting for my Who Murdered…? mystery series?

My grandfather (on my mother’s side) and his family hailed from New Hampshire and when I sat down to write Who Murdered the Ghost? I searched for a cemetery for my setting and became enchanted by Old Center Cemetery, deciding it was the perfect place for my mystery.

 

“The Old Center Cemetery in Andover, New Hampshire has been classified as one of the fifty creepiest burial grounds in the world, supposedly haunted by ghosts.”
